Limit moisture exchange and volatile-aroma loss by resealing opened packs and controlling handling time.
How to Store Bulk Star Anise
Storage should protect the dried spice from moisture, heat, direct light, odours, pests and physical damage. Pack design and shelf-life decisions must match the real route and warehouse.

Three decisions to make first
Store in a clean, dry, ventilated area away from direct sunlight, heat sources, strong odours and pest exposure.
Record receipt, opening and use; apply the buyer’s stock-rotation and reinspection rules.
Why whole and broken forms behave differently
Broken pieces have more exposed surface area and may lose aroma or absorb environmental moisture faster than intact fruit. Ground product is even more sensitive. Pack size should therefore reflect expected consumption after opening.
Design the export pack around the route
Confirm food-contact inner protection, outer bag or carton, closure, net weight, pallet pattern and container conditions. Long sea transit, humid destinations and repeated warehouse handling can require a different solution from a short domestic route.
Inspect on arrival and during storage
Check pack integrity, lot marks, signs of moisture or pests, foreign odour and material condition. Handle any deviation through the agreed inspection and claim process instead of mixing the lot into production.
Set shelf life through evidence
Shelf life depends on raw material, moisture, microbial status, packaging barrier, filling process and storage conditions. A responsible supplier should not use one online number for every bulk and retail configuration; confirm the project basis and buyer validation.
Questions buyers ask
Should star anise be refrigerated?
Normal requirements depend on the agreed product and pack. The priority is a clean, dry, controlled environment away from heat, light and odours.
Does whole star anise retain aroma better than broken pieces?
Intact fruit generally has less exposed surface area, but actual performance depends on lot, pack and storage conditions.
